Welcome to Bosdet Psychological Therapies
My name is Dr Luke Bosdet and I am a Principal Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited with the BABCP. I provide private psychological therapy in Wokingham, Berkshire and online.

I specialise in the treatment of trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD. I have extensive NHS experience working with highly traumatised populations, such as refugees and survivors of domestic violence and childhood abuse. I can help you recover and heal by processing traumatic memories and empowering you to live free from trauma.

My second specialism is working with anxiety disorders, including social anxiety, panic disorder, and OCD. Anxiety is the most common issue that people seek help and across my career I have gained substantial experience helping people with anxiety, or more accurately, reach what anxiety is getting in the way of.

My third specialism is providing psychological therapy to people who experience psychosis, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) and Family Intervention for Psychosis (FIP). I have worked both in services with people experiencing a first episode of psychosis and those with established diagnoses. This therapy involves working on your recovery goals and anything that is getting in the way, which could be anything from anxiety, low self-worth, voices, or other beliefs others believe are unusual.

I offer a warm, non-judgemental space for us to work collaboratively on your goals. My experience and qualifications are listed below, but I am able to offer flexible and tailored CBT and EMDR.
I offer a free initial phone consultation if you wish to speak with me further and figure out if I'm the therapist for you. Please contact me by email to arrange this or ask me any questions.

I am fully DBS checked.

My Qualifications and Experience
Training

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with University College London (UCL), one of the world's leading universities. I've continued to maintain good links with UCL and work as an Associate Clinical Tutor, visiting placements for Trainee Clinical Psychologists, running Reflective Practice groups, and sitting on the Doctorate interview panel.

Since qualifying, I've completed two Post-Graduate Certificates: 1) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis, and 2) Family Intervention for Psychosis.

I have completed training in Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR), a specialist recommended treatment for trauma.

I have a robust working knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and can flexibly develop personalised formulations and treatment plans with you. I am fully accredited with the BABCP (Leading UK CBT organisation). I work integratively, bringing in ideas and techniques from other therapy modalities where needed, such as chair work and imagery. I have some experience of using third-wave therapies, such as ACT.
Experience

I have worked in NHS mental health services since 2012, including specialist trauma and psychosis services, and have culminated significant experience in treating many severe and enduring disorders.
This includes:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Complex PTSD (CPTSD) - such as resulting from childhood trauma including sexual abuse, torture, or sustained domestic violence
- Social anxiety disorder
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
- Personality disorders
- Psychosis, including Paranoid Schizophrenia and first episode psychosis
- Bipolar Affective Disorder
- Depression

I am currently the Joint Lead Clinical Psychologist in North Westminster and manage the psychology team with a fellow Clinical Psychologist. I supervise qualified Clinical Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.

If you want to know if I have experience helping people with a specific condition, please do reach out and ask.
What to Expect
What does therapy involve?

The first step is to meet and have an assessment, usually done over one or two appointments. This is an opportunity to explore your current difficulties, your goals for therapy, and make an initial plan on how we can work on them. Therapy is then the process of working through these difficulties and towards your goals.

Therapy typically involves meeting weekly for a 50 minute appointment.

What therapy entails entirely depends on the person, difficulties, and goals. This could include processing memories using EMDR, actively testing beliefs and expectations, or exploring how the past manifests today. Every therapy is unique and shaped by a constant feedback process - what works and does not work for you.

How many sessions will I need?

The length of therapy can be difficult to predict. Some people only need 4 or 6 sessions, for others they need longer-term, open ended therapy. The assessment process can help determine this and take into account individual requirements.

The free initial telephone consultation
I offer a 15 minute free consultation on the phone. This is a chance to ask me any questions and check if I am the most suitable therapist for you. Please contact me by email below to arrange this.
